Hundreds of enthusiastic fans packed the stands at the Portuguese Club in London to see the East play the West in the first annual WOSL Men's All-Star game.  The game was in support of the London Health Sciences Centre's Children's Hospital.  From the opening whistle the play was very brisk, and the ball moved quickly through the midfield for both sides and featured an exceptional show of ball handling and passing abilities.  The quickness of these Premier Division stars could also be seen.  Although the teams were designed to be evenly matched on paper, on the turf it was another matter.  West (in red) held the advantage for essentially the entire game - on defense, in the midfield, and on offense.  Their plays were crisper, more forceful, and more confident.  East (in white) did manage to generate several offensive opportunities of their own however they weren't of the quality that would generate a goal against the very able West keepers.

Two goals were scored in the game, both for the West.  At 39 minutes in it was Chatham's Bryce Cumming (#14) making an outstanding play as he headed a corner directly into the far side of the net from well within a large group of players out in front of the net.  The second goal came at 75 minutes and was scored by Croatia's Bobbi Stipancic, who blasted a low shot from just within the box that deflected of a defenders ankle and then went directly into the bottom right corner of the goal.  The East had come out with renewed intensity in the second half but the West defense was well up to the task.  As is the usually the case in league play, the team with the better offensive execution came out on top.  All players appeared to enjoy the game however, and participated in a spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship that pleased the fans on hand.  The half-time show featured a mini-match between under 10 and an under 11 youth teams and was very entertaining to watch.  Who could guess which young player would be the next Premier All-Star player?  Time would certainly tell.  As the game ended with a score of 2-0 for the West, the two MVP's were announced.  For the West it was (#7) Matt Pocrnic of Croatia, and for the East it was (#16) Jamie Scott of Woodstock.  JHS
